What do the fairy dust symbols mean?

June 6, 2015 at 8:18 am | Posted in Articles, Characters, Fairy Dust, Powers and Spells, Winx Club | Leave a comment

When the Winx earned their Enchantix in Season 3, they also unlocked the power of fairy dust. Fairy dust, as has been described in the show, is the dust produced by the wings of fairies. It appears to be around in every fairy form, but when Enchantix is earned, fairy dust becomes significantly more powerful and allows the user to remove dark spells and effects, and miniaturize.

In season 3, we had special sequences for each of the Winx’s fairy dust lockets, where they all drew symbols as part of the process to opening the lockets. For fun, and nostalgia’s sake, I thought we’d investigate what these symbols mean! I’ve never thought about doing it before, but I was rewatching some season 3 episodes, and I figured, hey, some of these look familiar. So let’s get into it. Where’s the fight?

[Note: This is a bit of a long rant, and I’ve included lots of videos and everything, hence the read more link.]

The Nickelodeon version of Winx Club has been hyped up a lot (this isĀ somethingĀ to do with the fact that it’s back in America, on cable TV, and it’s not 4kids), but I don’t honestly think it deserves that hype. Neither do I think it deserves the overzealous praise it’s received from some fans, and nor do I think previous versions of Winx Club, like the Cinelume version deserve the hate some Nick fans are giving them. 2D Sirenix *SPOILERS*

February 11, 2013 at 8:40 pm | Posted in Airings and Dubs, Nickelodeon, Powers and Spells, Season 5, Seasons and Movies, Sirenix | Leave a comment

The 2D version of Sirenix is up on YouTube.

According to the OP over at Una Di Noi, Viacom already put Episode 14 on sale. I checked, and yep, it’s up.

As the OP says so rightfully, please don’t use the release of the Sirenix transformation as an excuse to skip the episode, which airs on Sunday, 1/12c. Ratings for Winx Club have been low, and it would be wonderful if the huge fanbase in America could support the show by tuning in for the 12th episode!

In the spirit of the original Italian version of Season 3 of Winx Club (which you will probably no longer find anywhere on the Internet thanks to Viacom’s illegal pulling down of content), here’s the Italian Enchantix song.

Yes. I’m back. I’ve been awfully busy with college lately (I’m graduating soon, and I’m doing a pretty hard couple of courses), but now I’ll be free for a while. So I’m back to blogging. šŸ™‚

Also, I’ve got a little something brewing, which you wonderful Winx Club fans can take part in. In fact, you’ll probably have to take part in it for it to work out. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, and I hope to see a lot of feedback and engagement, so stay tuned!

Thoughts on Diaspro vs. Bloom

I was just re-watching the battle between Bloom and Diaspro from Revenge of the Trix of the Nickelodeon Winx Club specials, and I thought I’d post a few thoughts on it.

So, overall, I didn’t like it as much as I liked it in Italian and RAI English. Sure, the animation was smoother, faster, and way better, but it Bloom in Diaspro's ring and Diaspro's gems are destroyed by Bloom. still lacked the quality that came from the originals.

I don’t like the transformations Nick made for the girls, as in the new “Charmix” transformations. My sister and I agree that the original “Winx” transformations were and are way better than the Nick ones.

Aside from the Winx, I liked what Nick did with Diaspro’s transformation very much. It seems more elegant and graceful, and it fits Diaspro much better than what Rainbow originally did with her transformation. One thing I didn’t like was that if you listen carefully while she transforms, you can hear the Winx-transforming-into-Zoomix-from-Season-4 music playing for her transformation. I doubt it would have been hard for them to come up with a score for her transformation, after all, they did manage to come up with a…well, I didn’t like it so much, but a “Charmix” song for the Winx’s transformation.

I liked the animation in the parts where the girls attack each other very much, and the protective shield that Diaspro constructed for herself was absolutely fantastic and way better than the original version. I noticed they thickened and lengthened Bloom’s hair by quite a bit, and honestly, I don’t think the girls need longer hair. xP

As for voice acting, I did not like the random screams and shouts Molly Quinn provided while voicing Bloom fighting. Arianna Grande, however, did not sound like herself at all to me, and that’s what I call a marvelous job of voicing Diaspro. Her voice had that sort of snobbish upper-class air to it, and yet the fury of someone being forced to fight a civilian. Loved it.

The fact that they cut out the little bit of physical fighting between the girls upset me a little, because I think it’s important that they show these girls aren’t all reliant on magic and fairy powers and can actually fight, if only a little bit.

Yep, that’s about it. I’ve embedded the original and the Nick version below for you to compare. The original one is in Swedish and has only a part of the battle, unfortunately, but I think it’s still enough to compare the animations and what they left out/in. (If anyone has a link to a RAI clip, please let me know in the comments.)

Nickelodeon’s official Season 3 Trailer!

Again, this news might be a bit late for those who have already seen it, but here’s the official Nickelodeon trailer for the third season of Winx Club.

Season 3 will be airing in full, which means that all original 26 episodes will be redubbed and broadcast on Nickelodeon. There will be a few minor changes to account for the plot of the specials, but the overall storyline will remain the same.

As for me, Enchantix is my favorite transformation, so I’m very, very happy they haven’t done anything to it. I almost feel protective of it. =P

What do you think of the trailer? I’m quite excited!

MIP COM Poster

MIP COM Promo poster

It was just yesterday that the promotional poster for BLE featuring season 5 went around, and there’s already another version of it circling the intertubes and Twitter.

This one’s for MIP COM, which is basically what my sister described as a “media and content event”, to find co-producers, directors, etc., and for filming, buying, selling, and financing content.

You can find more information on the event here.

As for the poster, my thoughts on the BLE one apply here too. And another one – I seriously hope this is not what they do with the hair!

For the inevitable question, what do you think of season 5 and the transformation?

Crystal Clear!

September 24, 2011 at 11:55 am | Posted in Characters, Darcy, Icy, Powers and Spells, Ramblings and Musings, Season 1, Seasons and Movies, Stormy, Trix | 2 Comments

Editor’s Note – This is a post I had originally done on the older Magia Di Winx site. I decided to post it here again while I was going through the old blog, because I wanted to see what newer readers thought of it. I’ve changed a few things, which may be why it seems different to some people.

Back in the original season 1 of Winx Club, our favorite villains the Trix used to have some pretty cool powers.

If I remember it right, one of them was conjuring up something they always called “The Vacuums” in Italian, and they once referred to them as “Loreli Vaccum”. The 4kids version changed the name to “Wisperian Crystal”.

In case you’ve forgotten what these are, here’s a quick run through of the stages.

And here’s a video of them conjuring up the crystals. (Uploaded by meĀ on YouTube, in Cinelume English.)

Please watch the video, there are a few things I’d like to discuss about it.

These crystals also seem to allow the Trix to watch what’s going on in other places without the other party being aware of it, as was shown in season 1 episodes 10 and 16 respectively.

And, as an up, the finished vacuum and one single crystal allows the Trix to measure the power of a magical being. It appears that distance doesn’t matter, as the Trix were able to measure Bloom’s power while she was at Alfea and they were at Cloudtower (Episode 10. You can see the power level in the crystals in the first image above) , and Icy used her crystal to measure Bloom’s power while they were fighting in Magix (Episode 9).

I think these vacuums are exactly that – vacuums. But they don’t appear to be ordinary vacuums. They’re devoid of power and magic, and so whenever there is an extremely powerful magical substance or being nearby, they are attracted to it. They can also store power, which makes sense since the laws of physics and nature state that a substance moves from a higher concentration to a lower concentration. The crystals, being devoid of power, would increase their magical potential by absorbing another’s. Case in point: when the Trix attacked Bloom on Gardenia, they conjured these crystals before taking a part of her Dragon Flame. Her power vanished into them.

All this begs the question what would happen if these crystals were smashed or harmed beyond repair in any way. They do seem to be extremely fragile. Their abilities make me think that if they were to be harmed, the Trix would either be entirely powerless or simply unable to gather more magic.

And as another infamous Winx Club plot hole, these crystals are never seen again after the first season. That makes it appear as if they were only to be used for their training at Cloudtower, but we all know they weren’t used only for that purpose.

What are your thoughts on these mysterious crystals?
